Mission

We research so no child has to die from cancer.

Childhood cancer is one of leading cause of death by disease among children and adolescents in Switzerland, with lifelong consequences even for survivors. Yet these diseases remain to be poorly studied, even if they differ fundamentally from adult cancers.

Led by the University Children's Hospitals in Zurich and Lausanne, the NCCR Children & Cancer brings together leading researchers, clinicians and societal partners to transform how childhood cancers are understood, diagnosed and treated.

Our mission is to build a national, collaborative framework that accelerates discovery and translates it into real benefits for young patients. We aim to deliver next-generation diagnostics, personalized therapies and improved quality of life for children and their families. At the same time, we work to strengthen public awareness, support informed decision-making and ensure that the needs of children are fully recognized in research and healthcare. Ultimately, we strive to position Switzerland as a leading hub for innovation in pediatric oncology and to create lasting impact beyond the lifetime of the program.
